Anthropic's Nscale compute reservation

Anthropic agreed to pay $45 billion over six years, averaging $7.5 billion per year, to reserve compute capacity at Nscale's Monarch campus in West Virginia. The deal covers 460 megawatts of capacity in the first of three planned buildings, running on Nvidia Vera Rubin chips, and is structured as a reservation of compute, power, cooling, and data-center space rather than an outright hardware purchase. The Monarch campus is expected to come online in late 2027 and, when fully built, is expected to be one of the largest compute hubs in the world. Google and Microsoft had both been in talks with Nscale before the deal went to Anthropic. The Nscale deal is one of several large compute commitments Anthropic has made recently, alongside deals with Fluidstack ($50 billion) and SpaceX ($45 billion), as it prepares for an IPO. Anthropic already distributes workloads across AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, and Nvidia GPUs.
