DeepMind SIMA 2 and EVE Online partnership

Google DeepMind has released SIMA 2, a generalist AI gaming agent powered by Gemini that plays commercial games using only screen pixels and natural language instructions, with no access to game APIs or source code. DeepMind also announced a research partnership with Fenris Creations, the studio behind the EVE Universe, to use the game's persistent, player-driven universe as a testbed for frontier AI capabilities. The partnership targets four challenges: continual learning, extended memory beyond current context windows, long-horizon planning, and complex multi-agent social dynamics. An early deliverable, the Aura Guidance system built on Gemini, already provides new EVE Online players guidance drawn from real community questions and answers. DeepMind's stated plan is to begin in an offline EVE Online sandbox, then progress through EVE Frontier, before potentially bringing AI agents into the live EVE Online and EVE Vanguard environments.
