OpenAI's Cursor model supply cutoff

OpenAI is ending its model supply agreement with Cursor on November 12, 2026, following SpaceX's $60 billion acquisition of the coding tool. OpenAI invoked a change-of-control clause in its contract, citing lack of confidence that SpaceX would comply with its terms of service. OpenAI stated it 'cannot be confident that SpaceX will use our technology within our terms of service, based on our experience with Elon Musk's companies violating contracts,' pointing to Twitter/X and xAI as prior examples. OpenAI also noted that Musk 'admitted under oath earlier this year that xAI, now also part of SpaceX, had violated OpenAI's terms of service.' OpenAI said it will not provide future models, including Astra, to Cursor under SpaceX ownership, and pledged support for developers affected by the transition, though specific details were not disclosed.
