Meta Muse Hits 10.2M Downloads in 40 Days, Retention Mixed
Muse's download pace is rare by historical app standards, but the gap between downloads and daily active users, alongside complaints about spam-like notifications, points to uncertainty about how durable that initial adoption is.

Meta's AI agent Muse reached 10.2 million U.S. downloads within 40 days of launch, a pace only 11 other apps have matched, most of them mobile games. Day 7 retention stands at around 30%, above rival AI app averages of 19%, and Day 14 retention at roughly 22-23%, above rival averages of 16%. Daily active users reached 2.5 million on October 16, up 15% in a week, but still under a quarter of total U.S. downloads. By comparison, Day 14 retention trails WhatsApp (67%), YouTube (59%), Instagram (54%), and TikTok and Snap (37%). Users have reported that Muse's notifications feel like spam, and critics note that most use cases are simple one-off tasks, raising questions about whether app-open retention driven by push notifications reflects genuine engagement.
