NVIDIA's US science and quantum commitment

The gist

NVIDIA Pledges $1B Over Five Years for US AI Science Research

The combined $2.4 billion industry pledge, alongside a separate $5 billion federal commitment, directs substantial compute and AI resources toward U.S. scientific research institutions. NVIDIA's contribution is the largest single industry pledge at the summit.

At the White House 'Science: A New Golden Age' summit on October 9, 2026, NVIDIA announced a $1 billion, five-year commitment to U.S. scientific research capacity. The investment spans higher-education research, quantum computing, cloud services for U.S. government needs, healthcare, and energy security. NVIDIA is also participating in Phase 2 Genesis Mission projects in quantum computing, fusion energy, accelerator design, and microelectronics. NVIDIA did not specify how the $1 billion would be divided among focus areas. The announcement was part of a broader commitment: eleven technology companies together pledged $2.4 billion in AI tools and compute at the same summit. Michael Kratsios said partners are committing '$2.4 billion in compute, frontier SI for science models, and other tools for researchers.' The federal government separately announced a $5 billion commitment to national science and technology challenges. The Genesis Mission was launched in November 2025 and expanded to more than 15 federal agencies in July 2026.

NVIDIA pledged $1 billion over five years to higher-education research, quantum computing, and government cloud services at the 'Science: A New Golden Age' event in Washington on October 13, connecting the pledge to Phase 2 of President Trump's Genesis Mission covering fusion energy and accelerator design.

An analyst separately argued that NVIDIA's projected AI rack capacity share falling from roughly 65% to 48% by 2030 is misleading, given UBS projections of roughly ninefold total capacity growth.
