Reporting published September 3 showed OpenAI has bought tens of thousands of Mac minis and Mac Studios to train computer-use agents through reinforcement learning, with other AI labs making comparable purchases amid a months-long shortage of high-memory configurations.
The buying registers in Apple's financials: Mac revenue reached $10.3 billion in Apple's June quarter, up 29% year-over-year, and Apple had already cited AI demand as a factor behind a March quarter result of $8.4 billion that came in above analyst expectations.
